To configure the advanced settings of your Linksys wireless range extender, you need to access the Linksys range extender’s web-based setup page. While it is not difficult to access that setup page normally, but if you are encountering problems issues accessing it, then it could be due to the following reasons:
- No connection to the device is established.
- Wi-Fi extender is connected to the network wirelessly, but it has failed to detect the internet connection from your network.
To fix the problem that you are encountering, i.e., unable to access Linksys extender setup page, you need to first make sure that you are able to use the setup page using its IP address or through the network map feature on your PC. To know how to do this, follow below-mentioned steps.
Check if your PC is connected to the Wi-Fi range extender’s Wi-Fi
You have to ensure that you are connected to the Wi-Fi name of your Wi-Fi range extender. To check this, you need to click on your computers’ wireless utility and as you do that, it is going to display the SSID your PC is connected to. If you aren’t connected to the extender’s SSID, then you need to select the SSID on the list of available networks followed by entering the network password and then, clicking ‘Connect’ or ‘Join’.
After you are connected to the network, you can access the setup page.
Check the indicator light on the Wi-Fi range extender
By checking the indicator light, you will be able to discern the status of the extender.
Powercycle your Wi-Fi range extender
Disconnect the extender, wait for a few seconds and then, reconnect it. Now, wait till the ‘Power’ LED on the Wi-Fi range extender is ready.
Check the PC’s connectivity to the device
You can check the communication between your PC and extender by doing ‘ping test’. You will have to get an IP address to ping the range extender. In case, your extender is not configured, then the default IP address would be 192.168.1.1.
Note: If all the aforementioned steps fail to work, then you need to disable any security software on your PC prior to accessing the Wi-Fi extender setup page.
Reset the device to factory defaults
Doing this will definitely resolve the issue, but you will have to run the setup CD again or setup the extender manually.
To factory reset the device, press and hold the ‘Reset’ button for 5-10 seconds or until you see the LED starts blinking. Once the device has been restored to factory settings, you should try to access to access Wi-Fi extender setup page.
Note: If you see a dialog box asking for your username and password, then keep the username blank and in the password, enter ‘admin’. In some range extenders, you will have to use ‘admin’ in both dialog box.
If you are still not able to access the setup page, then you need to check if the proxy settings on your PC are disabled. Or, you can get in touch with My WiFi Ext help and support providers for precise assistance.
