Hiding or unhiding SSID is a function that most people do because they don’t want to show their IP address to the web-based companies who always remain in the hunt to note the IP addresses of the users who visit their websites so as to provide them with location-based advertisements. Let us find out how to hide or unhide the SSID on Netgear Range Extender in this blog post.
It has been seen that SSID broadcast is enabled on the Netgear extender by default. This is a setting that comes with the device from the factory, but many people wish to hide SSID on their Netgear Range Extender. If you are looking to hide or unhide SSID on your Netgear Range Extender Wifi, then here is what you will have to do.
In order to hide SSID broadcast, here is what you are going to do.
- The first thing that you have to check is if your PC/client device is properly connected to the extender network either via a wireless connection or wired network.
- If it is connected, then open your extender GUI using http www.mywifiext.net.
- In case your extender is using a new GUI, let’s say Genie UI, then you will be asked to enter an email and password, which you have entered previously at the time of setting up the extender. If the extender is using the same old Genie UI, then you are going to be prompted for the username and password. If you don’t know what the username and password for www mywifiext net login are, then enter ‘admin’ in the username box and ‘password’ in the password box. If the default has been changed, then you need to enter the new password.
- If you want to hide the SSID, then go to Wi-Fi settings followed by unchecking ‘broadcast the network name (SSID)’ for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Click ‘save’ in order to save the settings. In case, you are looking to unhide the SSIDs, then just check the ‘broadcast this network name (SSID)’ option for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Finally, click ‘Save’.
If using New Netgear Genie UI
You will have to go to ‘advanced’ followed by ‘wireless settings’ for some extenders that make use of the older Genie UI. After going to ‘wireless settings’, you will have to uncheck the options that say ‘enable SSID Broadcast’. This will hide the SSID broadcast. If you wish to unhide the SSID, then you will have to check ‘enable SSID broadcast’ checkbox followed by clicking ‘apply’ option.
If using Netgear Genie Old UI
While using the old UI, you have to click on ‘Wi-Fi’ icon on your computer followed by clicking ‘Network settings’. Click ‘Wi-Fi’ option followed by clicking ‘Hidden Network’. Click ‘connect’, enter the name of the SSID and click ‘next’. After entering the password, click ‘next’.
